Ameerah Shabazz-Bilal

Ameerah Shabazz-Bilal is an award-winning poet from Newark, NJ, USA. Ameerah is the recipient of EvoluCulture’s 2024 Women in Poetry Award for Service to the Poetry Community. She is the recipient of the Maria Mazziotti Gillan Literary Service Award, the recipient of the Every Kinda Lady – ‘Her Story’ award for poetry, and is a member of The Academy of American Poets. Ameerah has performed for The Dodge Poetry Festival, North 2 Shore Poetry events, The Hamilton Arts, The Atlantic City, The Hartford Lit, The Paterson Poetry, NYC Poetry, and The Yale University Poetry/Slam Festivals.

Ameerah has taken the stage at NBPAC – New Brunswick Performing Arts Centre and has performed internationally in Cuba for El Jelengue Hall of the Patio Areito EGREM alongside Cuban poets and artists sharing cultural experiences. She was a feature artist in the 2023 Production of Brown, Black and Blues and the 2021 Lincoln Park Spoken Word concert. Ameerah hosts a monthly platform – When Women Speak, which is an international organization featuring women poets and creatives.

She has in her career published over 400 student poets and published volume one of an anthology of over 60 diverse female poets. Ameerah has a unique talent for telling stories through poetry and Visual Arts. Ameerah Shabazz-Bilal is a Published Poet and Author, Visual Artist, Teacher, Photographer, and the founder/facilitator of – “When Women Speak” and “When People Speak”. The Author/Illustrator of “Breathing Through Concrete” and “When Women Speak Anthology” with works featured in publications: NY Writer’s Coalition “Common Unity”, “Every Kinda Lady and Her Sister Pages volumes I and II”,” Soul Spaces”, “Philadelphia Says: Black Lives Matter”, “Womb of the Violet II”, “American Muslim Journal”, “Soup Can” Magazine Issue 2, LAWR Weekender’s Magazine volumes 1-3, “Life in Quarantine – Global Pandemic” and The PEPSI – Poetry Anthology. Ameerah is a writer, poet, illustrator, editor and photographer. Her work has been included in many venues throughout the Tri-State area.
