Onias Landveld, born in Paramaribo, Suriname in 1985, is a multi-talented artist specializing in spoken word, theater, and storytelling. After fleeing the Surinamese civil war as a child, he settled in the Netherlands in 1998. His passion for storytelling earned him the Van Dale Spoken Award in 2015, leading to a career in teaching and performing. As Tilburg’s city poet (2017-2019), he bridged art and community, later founding his own production house, Wosu, in 2020. In 2023 he created the exhibition “Kunu,” which is based on the theatrical piece of the same name. In this work, he portrays a version of the god Elegua. His work explores themes of identity and heritage, inspired by his Surinamese roots, and has been showcased across Europe and the Caribbean.
